Ever felt like hanging off a wall? How about flying along on a wire metres above the ground or, a game of canoe tiggy on the lake? Maybe jumping off a big tree and trusting your mates to catch you? Up for a swim in a resort pool, a walk through the rainforest, sleeping with your friends in bunk beds in the bush?
It’s morning and the water shimmers with the fairy dust sprinkling of early light. Palms overhead yawn in the light breeze and birds announce their presence. Sugar cane applauds the effort. Nestled in the crook of the arm of the Eudlo Creek, Maroochy River Resort and Bungalows is waking up and stretching across its 8 acres. After the rain, the brown river water seems serene in the sunshine. Another lovely day reaches out.
The heavens have opened over Eumundi, but the famous markets aren’t closing down. There’s tarps aplenty, a few puddles but lots of smiles and soon the grey breaks and the sun charges through, throwing spotlights down through the gaps. Before long we’re looking for the giant old fig trees for shade.
A stretch limo appeared, majestically rounding the corner, while fuschia bridesmaids and grey bridegroom’s giggled and chatted in the Crowne Plaza foyer. A photographer bustled like paparazzi about the couple who emerge from the limo. Must be a wedding.
As I get older, the years are flying by faster and faster. Christmas holidays are over, the kids are back into the swing of things at school and before I know it, summer will be over! It’s time for a holiday before the madness of the Easter bunny and hot cross buns. It’s time to ‘Stretch out my Summer’ and take a break on the Sunshine Coast. Decision made!

According to the dictionary definition, an outrigger is supposed to help stabilise boats in heavy weather and hopefully to stop them capsizing. Not sure if the founders of the Outrigger chain had this meaning in mind when they set up, but a night at their Noosa digs certainly helped keep us stable as the holiday crazies began to take hold.
