International Rally action

The little bit of rev-head in us will get to experience world class motorsport action on the Sunshine Coast from the 25 to 27 May. A free outdoor “start your engine” party will kick off the 2012 Brakes Direct International Rally of Queensland proceedings at King Beach in Caloundra on Friday night.

On Saturday and Sunday up to 90 cars and crews from around Australia as well as Britain, Sweden, India, Malaysia and Japan will tackle a competition stage on closed roads around Pomona. If you want to get up close and personal with the vehicles and their drivers, the cars will stop near Station Street in Pomona for about 15minutes from 11am on Saturday. See if you can spot the cricket superstar who will be swapping his baggy green captains hat for a racing helmet.  If you need an extra hint, he surprised us all with his mid-week wedding this month. He will be riding shotgun with veteran driver Mark Stacey.

If you really can't guess, you might recognise his photo!  The Event Super Pass which represents the best value at $45.00 for all-venues can be purchased online.  Or get into the Events Centre in Caloundra before 21 May and get the earlybird discount ticket for $20 per day while kids under 15 are free. Tickets at the gate will be $25 and kids will be $5. The highlight of the weekend is going to be the Main Event at Caloundra Aerodrome on Saturday night where rally cars will race on the airport runway, Pro Drift cars are also on the program which will finish off with a bang – fireworks of course! Put it in your calendar now, International Rally of Queensland on 25 to 27 May, 2012.
