Say the word ‘chocolate’ and you have my attention. Say ‘chocolate workshop’, and I am suddenly wishing that I was a child again even if it is just for the duration of the workshop. Nutworks recently managed to capture my attention with one such Chocolate Workshop. Located at Yandina, and more commonly known for their macadamia nut processing, Nutworks has made the transition to chocolate making in a way that is very hands on... finger lickingly so.
Pouring the moulds
The Chocolate Workshops are held throughout the school holidays and are suitable for children aged between 5-12 years (I can act like a 12 year old sometimes, so surely I fit the criteria?) and they also cater for groups with special needs as well as birthday parties. The kids get to choose their own mould; fairies (very popular), smilie faces, butterflies, cars and many more, and then are handed a cup of molten chocolate. Now this is where it would have all ended for me... I would have just sat there and devoured the cup of chocolate, forget the mould! Which is probably why the workshops are reserved for children as they are not quite the gluttons that we evolve into as adults (so ok, I am speaking for myself). Having said that, it amused me greatly to see the children having so much fun; chocolate stained lips, cheeks and fingers that they took great pleasure in cleaning. Deliberately creating spillages that they need no excuse, nor to be told, to clean via finger dipping/licking.
Chocolate making
It is a fun workshop and a worthwhile holiday activity and the kids get to take home their chocolate creations, to share (or not) with the family. And then of course there are all of the macadamia goodies in the gift shop that you will have to navigate past on the way out... Theme parks don’t immediately spring to mind when you think of the Sunshine Coast but Aussie World, right off the Bruce Highway (by the eccentric Ettamogah Pub), is a family playground worthy of attention.
