I’m a dog. And dogs don’t often get holidays. So when my Mum and Dad suggested to me we head off to Rydges Oasis Resort at Caloundra for a night, I barked my enthusiasm. I’ve never been to Caloundra, though I’ve heard from some other dogs it’s really dog friendly and they were all were really envious when I told them the Oasis has a bring-your-pup option and…that I was going! Hoowwwll!!!
I don’t really bother about the weather. If there’s an adventure on, I’m up for it rain, hail or shine. But Mum and Dad were looking a little glum and the rain outside was pretty heavy and it had been going for a few days – it is rainy season after all – but I just sat a wagged my tail, trying to let them know I didn’t care at all. Let’s go already!
Finally there. Our two-room apartment was really nice and I found a nice corner where Mum put my comfy bed courtesy of the Resort. She had a chat to me to be really careful not to have an accident on the carpet. Soon, I heard my lead rattling and we were off to go to the pool. I wasn’t so keen, cause I was pretty warm and sleepy, but when there’s a walk on, you gotta move.
The liquid sunshine was coming down but the pool and the surrounding lily-ponds were fantastic. Mum said it was a fantastic resort setting, whatever that means. We walked around the eel pond, where I fell in, and had to be rescued by Mum. And I didn’t even know there were big eels in there – we fed them after breakfast next day – as I would have got really scared, cause I’m only little.
The pool is huge and there’s a spa too. Mum, Dad and my human sister, Aceda (she’s eight) had fun going from one to the other. The rain didn’t seem a problem and they were having heaps of fun. Then we went over to the playground area in the Resort and Aceda and I had great fun on the swings and super-slippery slide.
That night, I stayed in the room while the family went for dinner. They came back saying it was really lovely and they were really happy there was a good gluten free selection, ‘cause they have allergies’. Dad and Aceda went to the games room and played on the car racing game for a while and were still laughing about how bad they were and how they kept crashing and coming last.
Next morning after a lovely sleep, the family took off for breakfast while I had some bikkies in the room, and then I joined them after and we went for another walk and dad and Aceda went back to the games room and had fun.
I’ve never been to a hotel before, but I was really sad to leave Rydges at Caloundra. They even gave me a great little pack of treats, which Mum and Dad said was free from the resort – isn’t everything free? It’s gonna take me ages to get through them…

Will I or won't I...
As we were leaving, we decided to check out the dog beaches nearby – Mum and Dad said there were 37 off-leash areas (love off-leash…) on the coast, including my favourite; 13 beaches. We headed down to Golden Beach and went for a bit of a wander along the boardwalk there, stopping to take in water views. I really enjoyed sniffing the little hibiscus flowers that had fallen in the rain and met one or two other dogs and had a chat.
Wow. Fun time or what?! I just looked up at Mum and Dad and was pretty pleased with my little holiday. And then a nap, dreaming of chasing really big eels…
